Breaking Free: The Inner Journey of Repunzle Part 2

Updated: Apr 12

Repunzle's journey—from being locked away in isolation to eventually finding freedom and self-empowerment—parallels the struggle many women face in discovering and embracing their truest self. The tower in Rapunzel could symbolize the constraints placed on women by societal expectations, and her eventual escape might represent the process of breaking free from these limitations to reclaim one’s voice and identity.

I want to add something I've been reflecting on, which is that I believe romantic relationships that do not turn into long-term things can still be a part of your psychological freeing of yourself.

Though painful, there’s something incredibly healing about someone you like who’s willing to be honest with you about you not being for them or fitting into their world in the way you'd hoped. It’s raw. It’s real. Even if it feels like you're getting 'bad' news. And oh, can it be humbling!

When a relationship shifts—whether it’s ending or evolving—it can be gut-wrenching. But when someone is brave enough to sit with you and share their truth, without games or pretenses, it opens a door to something profound. That kind of honesty can be a breath of fresh air, cutting through tension, giving both of you the space to process, to feel, and to re-frame. What’s even more beautiful, though, is when they’re not just walking away but offering friendship, offering a bridge back to each other, not as lovers, but as two people who still care.

It's a kind of healing when the romantically intimate part ends but you feel like you’ve been seen, respected, and valued, even as the dynamic changes.

In that honesty, in that willingness to remain friends, you find a quiet kind of peace. It’s the healing of knowing you weren't just an experience to be had, but a part of their story, just in a different way than expected. You may even get closer.

So this is where we see that the symbolism in Repunzle as very much an inner journey. When it comes to relationships, empaths often double down, trying harder when things feel confusing or uncertain. But where some people need to work on their staying power, Repunzle might need to cut her hair and get herself out of there.
